AI and the next generation of teachers

A well-known educational foundation sought insights into how the next generation of teachers was using AI in the classroom. We conducted a qualitative research panel with teachers aged 23 to 35 to understand their perceptions, motivations, and behaviors in this rapidly moving space. Additionally, we performed visioning exercises to explore "preferred futures" for integrating AI into teaching. Our findings informed the foundation's planning sessions, and our work will continue this fall to further investigate the next generation of teachers and their desired use of AI.

Laura Porto Stockwell is a strategist, researcher, and futures practitioner with more than two decades of experience shaping vision and strategy for Fortune 100 companies and NGOs, along with international work in Italy and the Czech Republic. A former journalist turned foresight strategist, she helps organizations anticipate change and design futures that endure. Laura teaches research and futures at the University of Washington and is a regular speaker at industry events. She holds degrees in journalism and media studies, along with a certificate in Futures Studies and Speculative Design.
